The historic house known as 'Wiehlův Dům' in Wenceslas Square was built in 1896 by and for the architect Antonín Wiehl (1846-1910), a leading figure of the Czech neo-Renaissance. The facade, by Josef Fanta with murals designed by Mikoláš Aleš, shows the Ages of Man in the lower range and appropriate allegorical figures and rhyming proverbs in the upper range. Pictured here are details from the north-western facade. The first shows the subject being knighted for his achievements and then enjoying a prosperous old age surrounded by his family. The second, last in the series of allegorical figures, shows the Slavic goddess of winter and death, Morena, with the memento mori: 'Proti Mořeně, není kořene!': 'Against Winter there is no (curative) root'. - See more at: www.praguestory.com/2011/11/vaclavske-namesti-79234.htm...
