Hope Island is an island around 4 miles east of Kakinada in Bay of Bengal. It is under Korangi Panchayathi of TallaRevu Mandal.
This Island is a natural protection for Kakinada from severe cyclones as they touch down at this island and weaken the intensity.
There is a proposal at Indian Govt, that Kakinada's Fishing harbour is extended to this island to improve Kakinada's shipyard abilities.

  • Currently there is no shipyard at Kakinada... However there is a proposal for the same.
  • The Kakinada Deep Water Port (KDWP) is in a protected bay formed by sand spit called Hope Island and an Island Breakwater. Hope Island was formed by northward littoral drift and its northern tip is called Godavari Point. The bay is sheltered from waves during NE Monsoon and the prevailing monsoon winds both due to SW and NE monsoons. Therefore good tranquillity conditions prevail at KDWP in all seasons.
