These are the sports pitches for the nearby Calder High School and are maintained by the local council. As they are constructed on the river floodplain (the river was diverted for the purpose) they regularly flood.

  • This is not only part of the river flood plain it is actually the major part of the local flood alleviation scheme. When these fields flood it is deliberate so as to take pressure away from Mytholmroyd.
