At one stage Mufulira used to be the second biggest underground engineering copper mine in the world. That was pre the mud slide disaster which caused the closure of a part of the mine and obviously effected copper output.

Ron Lawrence. I worked at Mufulira Copper Mine from 1968 to 1982 with breaks working in London working for Seltrust Engineering and at the Sarchesmeh Copper mine in Iran. I was fortunate enough to run into a Mopani engineer in France a few days ago who discussed many of the improvements Mopani have made, not least the significant reduction of so2 fumes from the converter stacks .A wonderful part of my life. Yes, Robert, I do remember John Salmon and his daughter Grace. I wonder what they are doing now.
