Sitting between the clear sunlight and endless vineyards, there lies the best kept secret of winemaking in the Tikvesh region - The Stobi Winery.

Located 80km to the South of Skopje, Macedonia's Capital, the Stobi Winery is surrounded by the remnants of the ancient town of Stobi, the largest and most famous archaeological site in the Republic of Macedonia dating back to 200 BC. This is the place that links the Mediterranean to the continental Balkan hinterlands, where the mystical Erigon and Axios rivers meet, making it an important historical centre for trade and warfare. Along this route countless Roman legions, crusading cavalries, Ottoman conquerors and World War armies have marched through the centuries.

The Stobi Winery is a proud witness to the ever-evolving wine traditions in these regions – ranging from the wine vessel, Kantharo - relished by the highborn in Stobi, to the wineskins used to transport this key product to the ancient metropolises, all the way to the cutting edge stainless steel tanks and sophisticated oak barrels where wine is produced and aged nowadays.

Today, this region represents the midpoint where the Old and the New World of wine meet in a blend of perfection.

--------------

Stobi Winery is located in central Macedonia, in the most famous wine region-Tikvesh.

About 12,000 hectares are planted in the Tikvesh wine region , which represents approximately one-third of the total vineyards area in Macedonia. As the Mediterranean climate from the south collides with the Continental climate from the north, it creates an area most remarkable for grape growing and wine production on the entire Balkan peninsula. The total annual temperature sum during the vegetation of 5300 °C - 5500 °C, the rainfall is 500-600 liters per square meter and the maximum daily temperature during July and August around 40°C. However, using modern viticultural measures and the good texture of the soil, the grapevine is constantly supplied with water, and the north winds provide natural protection against cryptogram diseases. This unique wine region has its own local, traditional varieties that are well known. Thus, the most famous grape variety is Vranec, which accounts for almost 50% of the total vineyards planted with red grapes. However, this region has proved to be an excellent breeding ground for international grape varieties, such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Shiraz, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Muscat, Riesling, Traminec and many others.

The capacity of the winery is 4.5 million liters, out of which 1.2 million liters are projected for fermentation.

The first step in getting top wine quality is the quality of the wine grapes. In order to ensure top quality, production is based exclusively on grapes grown on our own vineyards, which extend over an area of 600 hectares and include white varieties such as Zhilavka, Zhupljanka, Rkaciteli, Rheinland Riesling, Italian Riesling, Chardonnay, Muscat Ottonel and red varieties such as Pinot Noir, Vranec, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Frank, Shiraz, Petit Verdot etc.
