As the only brick manufacturing facility in the United States using periodic coal fired brick kilns, Colonial Brick Corp. specializes in manufacturing bricks to match original buildings, pavements, and other structures dating back to the early 1900s.

Since 1904, the Cayuga Brick Company in the Vermillion County town of Cayuga has been producing clinker bricks in coal-fired beehive kilns, one as old as the company itself. Clinker bricks changed the face of architecture starting in the 1920s, when architects embraced the discolored and distorted bricks, previously discarded, as charming ways to warm the facades of homes and buildings. The antique coal-fired process allows Colonial to manufacture small runs of brick in special colors, shapes and textures to match historic brick for restoration projects. The manufacturing process and the brickyard itself combine for a fascinating tour. Call ahead to arrange your visit: 765-492-3355.
