Site of a German, later Soviet ammunition dump. In August 1977 lightning struck a cache of 122mm Katyusha rockets, causing a huge explosion, with hundred of rockets launching and striking villages up to 15km away. No civilian casualties, but 70 Soviet troops (estimated, Sovet Army files held in secret until 2017). Cache of 270 rockets found buried during a 2002 cleanup of the decommissioned site.
