A line of exposed stones along the sidewalk are part of the Third Wall of Jerusalem (consensus view), as described by the 1st century historian Flavius Josephus (Jewish Wars, 5:147ff). Many more remains lie in the paved plaza across the street to the west and in the archaeological garden beyond.
