24 Peck Slip (New York City, New York)

USA / New Jersey / Hoboken / New York City, New York / Front Street, 236
 apartment building, 2005_construction

5-story (plus a small 2-level penthouse) residential building completed in 2005. Designed by Cook+Fox as part of the Historic Front Street 2005 re-development project, it uses two contrasting facade designs: beige brick on the south facade, facing Front Street, and the north section of the Peck Slip elevation to tie into the neighboring historic buildings; and a modern metal-and-glass facade on the remainder of the Peck Slip elevation.

The Front Street facade is three bays wide, with horizontal rustications and small, dark-grey stone elements providing detail to the piers. There are also grey iron elements at the ground floor, and on the inside edges of the windows of the two outer bays, recalling the cast-iron materials used in earlier buildings. The windows have stone sills and there is a black metal roof cornice. On the northern part of the Peck Slip facade, another grey metal vertical column divides the brick into two sections, each with two windows. Another metal cornices crowns that roof at the 5th floor. All of the windows on the brick sections have horizontal wooden solar shades
over their lower halves.

The modern-styled grey metal and glass squared iron columns dividing the bays, with floor-ceiling glass divided by narrow, silver metal frames. The center bay on the ground floor on Peck Slip is recessed, with a rounded corner on the bay to the north leading into the recessed area. At the upper floors, there are open corners with wrap-around windows at the intersection of Front and Peck Slip. Most of the 2nd, 3rd & 4th floors are covered by a mesh of horizontal solar shades. Rust-red-colored tension rods for canopies that cover the ground floor crisscross in a crazy pattern and allude to rigging of a ship, attaching to various points on the facade. The set-back penthouse on the building's roof is clad in grey metal, and has a small 2-level extension toward Peck Slip that has a rounded southern edge, with a ribbon band of windows, evoking the bridge of a tugboat. The ground floor is occupied by SUteiSHI restaurant.
