When King Charles I granted a market charter to Easingwold in 1638, a market cross was erectee. The market cross of today is a fusion of old and new. The base, in the form of three steps is the older part and the upright carved piece of stone was dated 19th century when it was rebuilt. The square canopy over the market cross was erected at the same time. The cross is a Grade II listed structure.
