This is the swimming pool described in Rushdie's book "Midnight's Children" as having the shape of (pre-partition?) India.

was a member from 69 -73. Many sailors used to frequent this pool while docking in the harbour. The Russians and the East Germans were not allowed to mingle with the West.We had a great swim team.

Uta went there nearly every Sunday from 1966-1970! I loved it - especially the food in the little restaurant: the coke my parents allowed us kids to drink there only once a week, the most delicious burgers I have ever eaten, the wonderfully refreshing mango ice-lollies and the jummy lollipops with red transparent paper, through which you could look at the sun ;)I loved the monsoon, when the big waves from the ocean came splashing over into the swimming pool! I wish to come back one day!

1967-70 (aged 5-8); that's where I learnt to swim and won my first cups and medals :-) Out swimming trainer was Czech, her name was Vera. The place seemed bigger than when I look at it now... childhood memories. Coke was in those design glass bottles then, us kids sponged the chips in some brown spicy sauce, I suppose it was Woucestershire, I still remember the flavour of the cone ice-creams (whenever I come across it), oh and there where those triple "breach candy sandwiches". The "island" in the middle od the big pool was great fun. Oh, and outside we often wandered on the black rocks when tide was down, they had those shells stuck to them, I once slipped and cut my leg on one - still have the scar. Wish I could visit for just one day, show my children what I've been telling them.
