Renamed in honor of Captain Tommy Bates, an avid performer/playwright who died in Gulf War. Built by POWs during WWII, it served as a performing arts center for several decades until it burnt down after a lightning strike in the mid-1990s. Local command chose not to rebuild, citing "budget constraints".
