Waves of pilgrims arrive at Sagardwip (Sagar Island) to bathe in the sangam of the Ganga and the sea on Makar sankranti in mid-January. At other times, the beach and the calm sea provide the perfect setting for a quite weekend. The ashrams here include Kapil Muni's Ashram.

This island is located on the confluence of the river Ganges with the Bay of Bengal. Population is approximately 200000, College (1), Schools(Secondary, High Secondary and Primary)-32. Block Development Office - Rudra Nagar. The Sundarban Institute for Science and Cultural Advancement's research station situated at Khan Saheb Abad village, almost in the middle of this Island, which is the birth-place of Dr. Asim K. Mandal, an Agricultural & Rural Development Scientist of the Sundarbans. Dr. Mandal left this place on 20th March 1997 for Kolkata for his mother's(Snehalata Devi) emergency treatement. This Son of the Soil devoted his major lifetime for the Islanders of SAGAR and the SUNDARBANS and their development programmes. He was a powerful and brilliant public representative from Sagar Island - The largest delta in the world.

  • I recently visited this place on 23 december,2007. It was beautiful. What I loved the most was the bath in the sagar.
