  • Posada Amazonas Lodge is ran by Rainforest Expeditions. This company is a joint venture of a NGO with the native people of the region who own tribal lands. Posada Amazonas is a 100% "green" lodge, but very luxurious. Plastic bottles are discouraged, ecological soap is provided, there is no electricity, the wood lodge maximizes the environment (i.e.: the rooms have no walls, rooms face directly the rainforest), etc. Wildlife is abundant for rainforest standards. There are good possibilities to see monkeys, macaws, snakes and others. It is important to mention that this is not pristine rainforest. It is lightly inhabited and wood logging has taken place; hence, cedar, mahogany, tornillo, pumaquiro, chihuahuaco and other hard woods have been logged. Since those trees are the biggest ones, the only huge trees that remain are the castanhas (aprox 30 to 60 meters high). For the price and closeness to inhabited areas (includes an airport)as well as closeness to Cusco (15 min by air) it is a must see place. Be aware that there is another lodge that is "green" which is ran by Inkaterra. Inkaterra's lodge is a bit more luxurious, but is located in a place where there is less likelihood to see rainforest fauna. The other lodges in the Tambopata river are not 100% "green". There is one that even has air-con and tiled floors!!!
