Originally a park in the Point Grey Municipality prior to amalgamation in 1929, it was named for the neighbourhood where it was located, Westmount, comprising the subdivision between Blanca, Belmont and West 2nd Avenue. This neighbourhood was named after Westmount in Montreal.
