The permanent infrastructure of this NSG Regional Hub in Mumbai was inaugurated on February 23, 2012 by the Union Home Minister Mr. P Chidambaram, in the presence of Maharashtra Chief Minister, Mr Prithviraj Chavan, State Home Minister Mr. R R Patil and Director General, NSG Mr. Rajan Medhekar, among others. The main aim of establishing Regional Hubs is to reduce response time and reach the area of operation as quickly as possible.

Previously, the Mumbai Hub was operationalized by Mr. P Chidambaram on June 30, 2009 at Kalina, adjacent to the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport. The hub has since been shifted to the present 23 acre fully-equipped site at Milind Nagar, JVLR, Marol, Andheri (E), Mumbai. With the inauguration of the permanent infrastructure the Mumbai Hub has now become administratively fully functional. The infrastructure has been built by the National Building Construction Corporation, NBCC.
