Cosimo I had the biscuit factory built because he wanted the need of bread on behalf of both his garrisons and the new Medicean town (and later that of all Elba) to be met; after some renovation in the nineteenth century, today this building is the seat of the Town Offices in Portoferraio. www.infoelba.com/
