Coverdale Village was built by the Pittsburgh Terminal Coal Company to house the workers of the company's Coverdale Mine (Mine No. 8), which occupied the present location of the Bethel Park Industrial Park. The mine opened in 1919 and closed in May 1949, having a peak employment of 1000 to 1200 workers.
