Information about Panchala Irrigation Project.
Panchala Project and Dam's Official Designation is "Panchala, D - 0 4502" . Locally also known as " PanchalaLake" / "Panchala Talav" . Panchala Dam was constructed as part of irrigation projects by Government of Maharashtra in the year 1998 . Nearest city to dam is Malegaon and the Dam is situated in Manora Taluka of Washim District of Maharashtra . It is built on and impounds a Local Nallah .The dam is an Earth-fill Gravity Dam . Purpose of the dam is for irrigation . The dam is divided in two portions by the Spillway. The portion North of the spillway is 243 m ( 797.24 Feet ) + The portion South of the spillway is 1067 m ( 3500.65 Feet ) . The Total length of the Dam , including the Spillway is 1411 m ( 4629.26 Feet ) . while the height of the dam above lowest foundation is 11.49 m ( 37.69 Feet ) . Detailed information about project spillway is not available . However , Project appears to have a Spillway of Other type . Length of the spillway is not known . However measured length of the spillway is approximately 101 m ( 320 Feet )..The Spillway is Ungated . Dam's catchment area is not known . Maximum / Gross storage capacity is 1.85 MCM . Live storage capacity is 0.874 MCM. Now a days almost all the water bodies make for good picnic spots . Panchala lake is also a popular Tourist attraction for its scenic beauty .
