This non-governmental, charitable organization was established in 1967 in one of the most backward village in the district of Bastar in Indian state presently known as Chhattisgarh (then Madhya Pradesh).

Its main aim was to provide health-care and education the poor and destitute of all caste and creed in the tribal communities in pursuance of the ideal of "service of God in man" as envisaged by Swami Vivekananda.

Health Care: It started with a small clinic/dispensary with only modest out-door facilities in the village of Dharampura in Bastar. Over the years, with substantial aid in cash and kind from donors- including individuals, organizations, and the state government; the clinic has grown into a full-fledged 50 bedded charitable hospital known as Vivekananda tribal hospital.

Education: In 1990 it established a primary school called Sarada convent, which has now grown into a reputed full-fledged English medium school covering both primary and secondary education up to 12th standard in the streams of Science and Commerce.

Work for tribal woman: In 2001, the organization took up the challenging task of women empowerment in Katekalyan block, the poorest tribal areas of Dantewada district of Bastar through micro-credit project for income generation. The project is fully finaanced and supported by CARE-India under its "Credit Rotation for Empowerment and Development through Institution building and Training" scheme. The organization has a development officer and a number of tribal out-reach workers fully devoted to this project.

Out-reach Healthcare: The organization also organizes Field camps in remote tribal areas for free health advice including distribution of medicines, outpatient treatment and referral for eye surgery. Cases requiring further treatment are referred to the hospital.

Water and sanitation: In order to sustain the economic and health improvements there is an urgent need to integrate the health and environmental issues with activities such as provision of safe water and sanitation facilities. These facilities are dismally lacking in the remote tribal villages into the development activities. While our long-term aim is to enlarge and improve the hospital and the school, we consider that it is in the area of out-reach health care and the provision of safe water and sanitation facilities where maximum gain can be achieved at most cost.
