Domar Upazila (Nilphamari district) with an area of 250.84 sq km, is bounded by West Bengal of India on the north, Nilphamari sadar upazila on the south, Dimla and Jaldhaka upazilas on the east, Debiganj upazila on the west. Main rivers are Jamuneshwari, Buri Tista and Chiki.
The location of the Domar town is 26.1054981N 88.834971E. Domar (Town) The town is now a municipality with an area of 21.48 sq km and population 17162; male 51.39%, female 48.61%. It has 9 wards and 12 mahallas. Literacy rate among the town people is 49.3%.
The upazila consists of 10 union parishads, 47 mouzas and 47 villages.
Historical events The previous name of Domar was Doman Nagar. It was the capital of Vhim Pal of the Pala Dynasty in 1075 AD
As of the 1991 Bangladesh census: Population 175507; male 51%, female 49%; Muslim 80%, Hindu 20%; ethnic nationals: Santal population 486.

Literacy and educational institutions: Average literacy 39%; male 46.5%, female 31.2%. Educational institutions: college 3, high school 23, madrasa 9, primary school 149.
