Koko-en (Himeji) | garden

Japan / Hyogo / Himeji

This Japanese garden was designed on the land allotments of the Edo Period discovered during excavations. Comprised of the Garden of the Feudal Load's Residence, the Tea Garden and seven other unique gardens, it offers a glimpse into the heart of Japanese culture. Koko-en, which literally means "love-of-the-old garden," is named after the school "Kokodo" founded by the Sakai family, former feudal lords of Himeji.
