The 39 ft sculpture was originally located at the Bank One Building at 500 Throckmorton Street, Fort Worth, Texas and commissioned by Fort Worth National Bank.
"Eagle" is one of Calder's stabiles, or nonmoving works. It was constructed in 1971 at the apex of his career and was dedicated on February 15, 1974.
It was given as a gift in honor of the 75th anniversary of the Seattle Art Museum in 2000, by local Seattle philanthropists Jon & Mary Shirley.
