Sierra Ladrone translates to "thieve's mountain". Legend has it that bandits would raid
wagon trains and settlers on the El Camino Real, the trail along the Rio Grande between
Mexico City and Santa Fe. They brought the booty to Ladrone and stashed it, and some
think there are still lost treasures among the folds of the mountain today.
