Babuganj Upazila (Barisal district) with an area of 164.88 sq km, is bounded by Gournadi upazila on the north, Barisal sadar and Jhalokati sadar upazilas on the south, Muladi upazila on the east, Wazirpur upazila on the west. Main rivers are Sugandha, Sandha, Shikarpur, Amtali and Arial khan); Rajarbar Cannel and Dehergati Beel are notable.

The location of the Babuganj town is 22.8197463N 90.3220578E. Babuganj (Town) consists of 3 mouzas with an area of 2.09 sq km. The town has a population of 2997; male 49.68%, female 50.32%. Literacy rate among the town people is 47.4%.

Babuganj thana was established in 1906 and was turned into an upazila in 1983. It consists of 6 union parishads, 83 mouzas, 87 villages.

As of the 1991 Bangladesh census: Population 135905; male 50.58%, female 49.42%; Muslim 94.05%, Hindu 5.52%, Christian 0.25%, Buddhist 0.04%, others 0.14%.
