Straddling within the Central Nautical Highway, this Barangay with a population of approximately 1,540 people derives its name from the vernacular term "Laaw" which means "wild or savage", which was a reference in the olden times that this place might had contained a number of wild animals and that the people living here in the olden times were savage and untamed as well, depicting the old nomadic settlers of Northern Cebu, prior to the arrival of the Spaniards.
