Juval Castle

The Juval Castle is a medieval castle with a Romanesque nucleus at the entrance of the Schnalstal (Venosta / South Tyrol) above Naturns in the district of Bernkastel-Ciardes about 1,000 m above sea level.

The name is derived from Juval Latin "Mons Jovis" (Jupiter's Mountain), a term which was for kuppige, head-like rock formations at important Linking pairs as sacred name in use.

The castle was built probably around 1250, as is owned by Hugo von Montalban mentioned it the first time in 1278. 1368, it counts for possession of the lords of Stark Mountain and 1540, after frequent changes of ownership, it is acquired by the family Sinkmoser. The castle later falls to the sex of the chicken, the farmers sell it to the 1813 Josef Blaas. The castle falls into the following period.

1913 bought the Dutchman William Rowland, the facility and renovated it.

In 1983 she was from the South Tyrolean mountaineer Reinhold Messner for the time around 60,000 DM (about 30,000 €) purchased and restored. The castle serves not only as the residence of a climber, but is also home to the Tibetan collection and other collectibles. Castle and collection, which now form the Messner Mountain Museum Juval can be visited.
