Located in the eastern portion of the Ridge limestone Rif Talassemtane National Park was created in October 2004. It covers an area of 58,950 ha, a very original territory is individualized by its biodiversity and landscapes. With its rugged terrain characterizing the Rif mountains, National Park Talassemtane offers natural landscapes of great heritage value across the Mediterranean. It includes deep valleys and canyons, carved by torrential wadis, canyons with cliffs and caves abundant. The park contains the only fir Moroccan last witnesses of a unique ecosystem on the world today and in great danger. There are also more than 239 plant species including many endemic as Atlas cedar and pine.
Cultural resources, combined with the natural potential, offer Talassemtane National Park ecotourism potential of national importance and Mediterranean. It is officially part of the Transcontinental Biosphere Reserve of the Mediterranean (Morocco - Spain). Talassemtane also hosts a forty mammals, the most notable are the monkey and baboon Otter. Over 100 species of birds, including some rare raptors (golden eagle and the bearded vulture), occur at the site. Reptiles and amphibians are also represented by about thirty species. The park is a refuge for over 37 species of mammals including the most famous one is the monkey ape who takes shelter in the caves. Over 117 species of birds have been counted, the most spectacular are the bearded vulture and the golden eagle. (see www. ecologique ma.)
