Sweetbriar is a community located south of Castella and Castle Crags. The community started in 1855, when the Sweetbriar Ranch opened, also serving as a tollgate for the many trails in the canyon. The Sweetbriar Resort opened in 1882 as a tourist attraction for the residents of Redding.

Many cabins operate year-round here.
