Wengler is a former community located south of Big Bend. Wengler was the company town for the Big Bend Lumber Company, as many of the workers took up residence. By 1905, the town had 300 people. The logs from the forests were sent floating down the Sacramento River to the Turtle Bay Mill in Redding. The post office ran from 1899 to 1942, and the postmaster was Mathias Wengler, whom the town was named for.
