water, historic landmark
Historic replica of canals in Venice Italy built by Abbott Kinney. Used to be much larger extending further north throughout all of Venice, but many canals were filled in years ago and replaced with streets. There are plenty of canals for a two hour walk among the homes in this area. Access the sidewalks from Washington Boulevard, at the bridge near the beach. Walk North from Washington. The canals are not much, just shallow ditches about 10-12 feet wide, but they are kept clean in the home section. It's a nice walk through the area. The parcels are small & the homes are very close to the canals, so you can see many variations on the "small plot" design issue for homes & gardens. Do not plan to ride bikes. The sidewalks are too narrow & there are too many sharp turns.
