Balluta Buildings (St. Julian's)

Malta / Outer Harbour / San Giljan / St. Julian's
Art Nouveau / Jugendstil (architecture), apartment building

The Balluta Buildings (with an "s") is one of the most stunning architectural landmarks along the St. Julian's promenade. This building (or series of buildings depending on how you look at it) gave name to Balluta Bay which it fronts.
The majestic and monumental Balluta Buildings represent the epitome of the short-lived Art Nouveau architectural period in Malta (built in 1926-28). The three dimensional quality of the façade with its eloquent decorative details is unrivalled in terms of similar buildings designed in this style. The multi-storey apartment blocks were commissioned by the wealthy Marquis John Scicluna.
