Buckeye is a neighborhood and former community near Redding, California. Buckeye was established as a gold-mining town in 1849. The mining camp was first known as Ohio City, then Pumptown. The residents permanently changed the name to Buckeye as a suitable tribute to their hometown of Ohio: the Buckeye State. In 1915-1928, the community was known as Old Diggins because of the refurbished abandoned quartz mines. Buckeye is now an annexation to Redding.
