cemetery, historic landmark
Finns Point National Cemetery was officially designated as a national cemetery in October 1875 by the United States government. Having both Union and Confederate soldiers who died during the American Civil War buried within the confines of the same national cemetery, albeit in separate sections, makes Finns Point somewhat unique.
The Confederate dead were transported here from Fort Delaware on nearby Pea Patch Island, the site of a notorious POW camp during the Civil War.
There is a also a section of German POWs who died during WWII.
