International Monitoring System, infrasound monitoring site
L3 is one of eight array elements (L1-L8) of the IS11 infrasound listening station on Maio Island. IS11 was installed in 2006-2007 as part of the verification regime of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty. The array is laid out as an inner triangle (sites L1-L3) and an outer pentagon (sites L4-L8) within a 2×2 km area. The L3 site falls within an area of artificially planted acacia trees and is difficult to see in aerial photographs.
