On the 19th of November, 1941 during the Second World War. The Australian light cruiser HMAS Sydney engaged the German auxiliary cruiser HSK Kormoran off the coast of Western Australia.
Both ships were sunk during the battle and their wrecks have now been located. The entire 645 crew of the HMAS Sydney perished while the majority of the crew of the HSK Kormoran were captured.
This is a memorial to the crew of the HMAS Sydney.
