Lakshmichhari Upazila (Khagrachari district) with an area of 215.80 sq km, is bounded by Mahalchhari and ramgarh upazilas on the north, Kawkhali (Rangamai) and Fatikchhari upazilas on the south, Nannerchar and Mahalchhari upazilas on the east, Manikchhari and Fatikchhari upazilas on the west. There are many small hilly chharas and waterfalls.
The location of the Lakshmichari town is 22.8001833N 91.9088745E. Lakshmichhari (Town) consists of one mouza. It has an area of 7.77 sq km. The town has a population of 1086; male 59.12% and female 40.88%; population density per sq km 140. Literacy rate among the town people is 36.2%. The town has two dakbungalows.
Lakshmichhari thana was turned into an upazila in 1983. The upazila consists of three union parishads, 16 mouzas and 122 villages.

As of the 1991 Bangladeh census: Population 16676; male 52.88%, female 47.12%; Muslim 13.84%, Hindu 0.58%; Buddhist 85.56% and Christian 0.02.1%.
Literacy and educational institutions: Average literacy 14.3%; male 22.2%, female 5.3%. Educational institutions: high school 1, junior school 3, madrasa 4, government primary school 15, non-government primary school 8.
Cultural organisations: Rural club 14, playground 3.
Main occupations: Agriculture 49.33%, fishing 1.03%, forestry 15.22%, agricultural labourer 20.71%, wage labourer 3.49%, commerce 2.79%, service 3.24% and others 4.19%.
Land use: Total cultivable land 2000.4 hectares, fallow land 330.23 hectares; single crop 60.92%, double crop 28.97% and treble crop land 10.11%; cultivable land under irrigation 11.34%.
Land control: Among the peasants 16.37% are landless, 56.74% small, 23.86% intermediate and 3.03% rich; cultivable land per head 0.09 hectare. Most of the tribal farmers are jhum cultivators.
Communication facilities- Roads: pucca 8 km, semi pucca 15.5 km and mud road 52 km.
Manufactories: Saw mill 1 and rice mill 4.
