 apartment building, commercial building

5-story residential building completed in 1870. There is a matching building section to the west, half as wide, that was built at the same time and is only separated by a vertical groove in the brick of the upper floors. It has a separate entrance at 52 West 56th. The lower two floors are commercial, faced in black-painted stone and glass. A pair of metal-and-glass storefronts at the ground floor flank a central entrance with a glass door, sidelight, and fanlight under a round-arch. The 2nd floor has two very large tripartite windows.

The upper floors are clad in red brick, with six bays of single-windows with beige stone sills and splayed lintels. A stone cornice marks the roof line. The ground floor is occupied by Printon 56 restaurant, and Corporate Cafe & Catering, with the 2nd floor occupied by Portofino Salon.
