Pulau Upeh

Malaysia / Melaka / Klebang /

An island in Melaka where turtles once landed and laid eggs. Not anymore now because the sand is all gone. Only rocks left. However it's still claimed to be 'the largest turtle nestling place in West Malaysia, after the largest in East Malaysia (Sabah - Pulau Penyu)', though the island is only size of 0.8Ha with a red laterite beach stretching 100m (reported by Melaka Hari Ini, state official journal).
The sand was sucked up for the land reclamation project on the mainland.
Bricks for the ancient Portuguese forts were cut from the rocks here in the past centuries. However, the recent fort replica (Middelburg) was made of bricks from Thailand.

  • What's the building on the island?
  • 120 abandoned chalets on the island. The state governmen announced a revitalisation project for the island from tourism perspective. It's claimed to be one of the spots along the 'Malacca Island Hopping' package... hopefully the activities won't further destructing the natural environment here as a turtle sanctury.
  • Kenapa kerajaan melaka bodoh sangat merosakkan pulau sebesar kelemut ini dengan pembangunan merepek meraban. Kenapa tidak wartakan pulau ini sebagai taman laut macam pulau gaya di Sabah.
  • are you still on it? or you just another pass byer... the island still abandoned and still have number of turtle coming up nesting. only once a while some recreational angler come to angling at night.
