20-story Neo-Baroque hotel originally completed as a 12-story office building in 1914. Designed by George & Edward Blum, it was known as the Paragon Building. In 2015, the smaller, 7-story neighboring building at 7 West 44th Street was torn down, and a new 20-story ground-up structure built, with the upper floors spilling over onto the existing building at 15 West 44th. The new hotel, not completed until 2021, is designed by William Green Architects.
The 3-story rusticated limestone base of the original building has three double-height round-arches in the middle (the center one wider), and doorways at both end bays, flanked by wall lanterns. Above grey stone panels, the 2nd floor has multi-paned windows in the end bays. The 3rd floor has four smaller round-arched windows in the middle, and windows similar to those below in the end bays. A stone cornice caps the base.
The 4th-12th floors have three bays of multi-paned windows between stone piers, and is topped by a black stone cornice. To the east, the newer and narrower structure also has a 3-story base, framed in 3-story black marble piers. It has a metal-and-glass main entrance, covered by a metal-and-glass fan-shaped canopy. The upper floors have dark-grey masonry end piers, framing window groups consisting of tall single-window end panes, and shorter double-windows in the middle, topped by a horizontal pane. There are small cast-iron Juliet balconies at each floor, up to the 12th.
The 13th floor at the east end has a glassed-in wall, with the 13th-14th floors framed by green cast-iron piers and crossed by decorative cast-iron latticework, forming an arch across the 15th floor. The west side of the 13th-14th floors has four double-height round-arches. Above, the 15th-16th floors have four bays of triple-windows at the west side. The entire 17th-18th floors are faced in a metal screen, while the 19th floor has a glass curtain wall. The 20th floor is framed in green cast-iron, with three groups of three round-arches, with glass infill in the middle, and metal screens at the ends.
The hotel contains 96 guest rooms, and there is a rooftop bar and terrace. Part of the ground floor is occupied by Strip House restaurant.
