This park falls in the 129 ward of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation. This area was used to be a place for dumping the waste of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation including night soil. Subsequently it was changed to a park out of the MP Lad fund of Ms. Krishna Bose, MP of Jadavpur Constituency. Conversion from a dumping station to a park was the outcome of agitations by the local residents let by late Naruda, Bablada, Chotoda and others. Those agitations were also supported by the Great Padmashree Sailen Manna. This park is the brain child of the local Councillor, Mr. Anjan Das, a Trinamool Councillor, who is loved by all residents cutting the party line. This park is dedicated to the memory of a legend of this locality, late Mohini Chowdhury, who was one of the great lyricist of his time. His best known lyric is 'Muktir Mandir Sopan Tale......". The park was inaugurated in the year 2005. Since sometime past the park is loosing its face value. Unless proper vigil is kept by the authorities, it will lose its very identity.

  • There was a time, about a decade ago, when this vicinity where Mohini Kunjo stands today, was filled with gutter, filth, trash and was a hideout for antisocial activities. Locally, initiatives were undertaken by local residents but without any fruitful results being achieved. But under the able leadership of Mr. Anjan Das, a responsible Trinamool Congress activist of repute (presently the working president of South 24 parganas Trinamool Congress, an ex- chairman of K.M.C Borough no.14). It is worth mentioning that the farsighted vision of Sri Anjan Das and his endeavor gave rise to the park, an oasis of lush green amidst hellish conditions.Mr.Das ran from pillar post and left no stones unturned to gather funds to achieve his objective of gifting the locality a greenery where children play joyfully,the youth finds a place to boost their physique and the elderly find bliss in the fresh ambience of Mohini Kunjo. It was an apt decision to name this location after a luminary like Late Mohini Chowdhury, who in his life time was perhaps deprived of the appreciation and applaud he deserved. Mr.Mohini Chowdhury was an ardent disciple of Lord Ramkrishna and his lyrics are immortal and have universal recognition. Again it was the witty Anjan Das , who strived hard to name the Park after Sri Chowdhury and ultimately paid utmost respect through such naming. When environmental hazards are at the peak, such an initiative of Kolkata Corporation, under the leadership of Sri Anjan Das is highly commendable. Personalities like Mamata Banerjee, Subrata Mukherjee, ex M.P Shamik Lahiri and Sujan Chakraborty have spoke highly about the Park, Mohini Kunjo.
