(former) School for Non-combat Officers (Bahad 12)now used as MAGAL Division HQ

Used to be a school for non-combat officers (particularly female officers), located in Tzrifin. Now serves as MAGAL div. Headquarters. Machal (Hebrew: מח"ל‎, an acronym for Mitnadvei Hutz LaAretz (Hebrew: מתנדבי חוץ לארץ‎), lit. Volunteers from outside the Land [of Israel]) is a term used to describe both Jewish and non-Jewish volunteers who went to Israel to fight in the 1948 Arab-Israeli War including Aliyah Bet. About 4,000 volunteers from all over the world came to fight on the Israeli side.

In recognition of that tradition overseas Israeli citizens (and non-citizens Jews) are able to enrol in a 5-month long pre-IDF servie training & preparation programme under the name of the Magal. The former facilities of the Bahad-12 are now used to facilitate this programme.

This facility is due to close by the end of 2014 / early 2015 when the functions are due to be transferred to the new Central Training Base, in the Negev Desert : Kiryat Ben-Gurion (IrHaBahadim) instead
