A large (33 acre) botanical garden, opened in 1980 after a few decades of planning by two women who worked from the 1940s to 1976 (when voters approved it) to open a botanical garden in the city. It's been expanded a few times, most notably in 1988 with the Lucile Halsell Conservatory and in 1995 with the moving and restoration of the 1896 Sullivan Carriage House.
