Originally established in the 1960s, the Arcelor Mittal landfill receives solid waste from steel making operations including, dust collected from air pollution equipment and sludge from water treatment plants. In 2006 Arcelor Mittal obtained permission to expand the landfill site from 25 acres to 45 acres.
