Peruvannamuzhi is located about 60 km North East of the district headquarters. By boarding buses plying between Kozhikode and Peruvannamuzhi, you can directly reach Peruvannamuzhi Dam. In addition, frequent bus services are available from Perambra to Peruvannamuzhi dam.

The region offers immense scope for picnicking. The Peruvannamuzhi dam site set amid hills is a beautiful picnic spot. The reservoir here provides facilities for speedboat and rowboat cruises during which one can see the 'Smaraka Thottam', a garden built in the memory of the freedom fighters of the region. Uninhabited islands, a bird sanctuary and a crocodile farm add to the charm of the place.

There are numerous small islands in the reservoir few of them are converted to Bird sanctuaries and 'Samarak Thottam'.The reservoir serves the irrigation requirements of three districts of Kerala namely Kozhikode,Malapuram and Kannur.The Japan government aided multi million dollar drinking water project also is taking water from the Peruvannamuzhi reservoir.

There is a beautiful garden in peruvannamuzhi where visitors can spend time without any disturbance of the busy outside world. Another attraction of Peruvannamuzhi is the Crocodile farm where you can closely observe the giant crocodiles.

The IISR (formerly CPCRI) research center is also located in Peruvannamuzhi.IISR is a Government of India Institution for agricultural research and development. Many new varieties of crops have emerged from the IISR Peruvannamuzhi research labs.

Another venture of IISR known as KVK or Krishi Vigyan Kendra also has its main offices in Peruvannamuzhi. KVK has it's own training facilities for farmers with hostel and boarding facilities. Another attraction of Peruvannamuzhi is the Koothali Agricultural Farm which is located in Peruvannamuzhi.You will get seed and saplings of all fruit and flower varieties here.

  • It is a nice picnic spot not for animal lovers birds and animals are on small cages so no space for them to turn around
