This house is located in the Old Clinton Historic District, known as "The Town That Time Forgot". It is one of the oldest standing homes in Old Clinton Historic District.
Built by Captain John Mitchell, a Clinton Commissioner, and added to by James Smith. It was purchased in 1867 by Dr. Horatio Bowen who became the leading doctor in the county. He was also a planter and one of the largest wine producers in the state. Later the home became the home of Judge Jackson Clay Barron.
