Parts of the riverbank in this area experienced a slope failure in June 2012. The alley between houses cracked open and some backyards dropped several metres. Power was knocked out when a power pole started to lean and wrenched some power lines. Natural gas was shut off so that the line could be inspected for damage.

It was determined that the weight of landscaping material on private property, combined with the natural soil composition and a high water table, lead to the slope failure.
