  • Riverview Highlands is owned and operated by the City of Riverview. At a time when most cities were turning away waste dumps, the City of Riverview turned the use of a dump into a positive asset. Used as a low level dump site, the city receives a vast amount of its city revenues from collecting others trash. At one point in the waste collection process, the north side of the dump served as a ski area complete with snow making, two lifts, tow ropes and ski lodge. Deemed as unprofitable short ski season, call it global warming, the city ended the skiing and turned it into additional gold area. The landfill also has significant methane gas built up that has been tapped and an additional source to city revenues. Surrounding the City dump are two golf courses and homes along the fairways amongst the most expensive and prestigious in the area. All within eyesight of the ever rising and bulging landfill.
