Golf de Royan is an extremely challenging and physical golf course that has been sculpted through the tall pines of this fantastic area of the Cote de Beaute. From the par 3 14th hole one can see the Corduan Phare (lighthouse) that dominates the mouth of the Gironde estuary.
The front nine is easy to score on but also it can be very easy to miss narrow fairways. The back nine hosts a variety of go for broke or play the percentage type golf shots. Culminating in a nice finishing par 4 with a challenging approach shot over water to a two tiered makenzie bank green. Careful not to fluff your approach as large groups of golfers and restaurant diners sit outside on the terrace overlooking the 18th green.
In short a physically demanding course, great practice area, freindly people, good food and wine makes this a must play golf course - undoubtedly in glorious sunshine of the 300 days per year that Royan enjoys.
