office building, skyscraper
Deutsche Bank Place is a skyscraper located in the Central Business District of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. It has a roof height of 160 metres (525 feet), but it has an open triangular structure with twin spires which takes its height up to 240 metres (787 feet). The building has 39 floors and has a floor area of 42,234 square metres (454,606 square feet). It is the second-tallest building in the world with fewer than 40 floors; Al Faisaliyah Center in Riyadh is taller. It also has parking spaces for 78 cars. Construction began began in 2002 and was completed in 2005 and the cost totaled AU$450,000,000. The building is of the late-modernist style and is made primarily of concrete, glass and steel. The building's architect is Norman Foster of Foster and Partners. Deutsche Bank is the primary Tenant, occupying 9 floors (about 40% of the office space) and owning the naming rights. The building was originally planned to be much larger, however it would have blocked sunlight reaching the buildings on its east side. The four-setback roof allows sunlight to reach the southeastern side of the building. The spires appear oversized for the building; this was caused by the height reduction, the spires being proportionate to a taller building. It has a hollow vertical circulation core that provides air and light throughout the building which rises from a large foyer area that covers the whole area of the ground floor. The core is detached from the tower and is linked to it by skybridges. The building has an atrium which rises 150 meters between the main transportation core and the office tower. The space is visible from the elevators and is cut only by skybridges. The building's ground floor public area is 15 metres high and covers the whole footprint of the building. It is open and transparent with ample space for cafes and amenities.
